Noted big band singers will also be featured. Ahlstrom says he’ll conduct some trivia elements involving big band themes, song titles, and lyrics to challenge the audience. The audience will also be introduced to foreign big bands, one or two novelty songs and portions of big band radio remotes recorded during that era. Current artists of the big band genre will also be presented. The host also said the audience will be encouraged to bring in their favorite song on cd or challenge him to find it in his vast collection of music. “I’m hoping that the attendees will not only enjoy listening to some long forgotten tunes but will also enjoy participating in the trivia portion of the evening,” Ahlstrom added.

Location:  The Dede Ewald Room
Contact:   / /
Description:  “With forty percent of people in the U.S. getting cancer sometime in their life, why wait to beat the odds?” asks Dr. Richard Ruhling, a retired physician who taught Health Science at Loma Linda University. Learn more at a free presentation at the Cottonwood Public Library on Saturday, November 17 at 12 p.m.

Ruhling is board-certified in Internal Medicine and isn’t anti-doctor, but he cites Allen Levin, MD, that most cancer patients die of chemotherapy rather than the cancer itself. He believes that we should be aware of Rx limitations and alternatives. A DVD segment will be shown that includes Dr. Ruth Heidrich, who had breast cancer, but survived it by turning down the advice of five doctors. Dr. Colin Campbell, who wrote The China Study, found that cancer could be turned on and off by diet. All of these topics and more will be presented during the program.

The views, information, or opinions expressed during this program are solely those of the individuals involved and do not necessarily represent those of the City of Cottonwood or its employees.

Description:  Foster Grandparents are role models, mentors, and friends to children with exceptional needs. The program provides a way for volunteers age 55 and over to stay active by serving children and youth in their communities.

Volunteers serve at thousands of local organizations that:
  • Help children learn to read and provide one-on-one tutoring
  • Mentor troubled teenagers and young mothers
  • Care for premature infants or children with disabilities
  • Help children who have been abused or neglected
All you need to join is the ability to give the kind of comfort and love that sets a child on the path toward a successful future. If you’re 55 or older and want to share your experience and compassion, you have what it takes to be a Foster Grandparent.
